Yes, That is a Trailer

30 03 2008
Bertie was introduced to the trailer yesterday and it went VERY well. She gave it a sniff looked in, looked at me as if to say well, if you what me to go in I guess it is OK, and in she went. I thought to my self wow! that was the easiest horse to teach to trailer. she backed out nice and calm and we walked around a bit, then back to the trailer, in she went. Bertie loaded up and backed out about 9 times and I called it good for the trailer for the day. I did more grooming and I brushed her tail (she didn’t even get mad this time) went for a walk and just played. My husband came out and split some wood so Bertie and I hung out with him for a bit.
I watched a sexy Indiana work and Bertie nibbled on some grass (she’s not in to the sexy man thing).
Today Andy took Gracie to the horse trailer he walked in, she watched very closely then in she went ( WOW! another easy trailer loader) Gracie backed out nicely and they went in and out a few times then to the round pen the went. Andy worked with her on picking up her feet and flexing (she dose that very nicely). Both of the girls tie good and love going for walks.

where are we now?

28 03 2008
Things are going good the wether has been off and on sun, wind and rain.
The girls are doing good. Bertie and I have just ben working on more sacking out and picking up feet.
Today was good I finally got her tail brushed with out having to turn 50 circles she was not to happy but, I got it brushed. She saddles great but I have a hard time getting her us to me touching her off side when I am up there just because she is SO big it is ether you are on or off there is no hanging and rubbing the sides, I can barely get my arm over her back, man it is a good thing she is so calm.
Andy can now stand in the saddle with out Gracie moving ( or should I say bouncing) She will pack around all kinds of stuff on her saddle, milk jugs, bag of cans you name it Andy puts it on her.

Trust!

20 03 2008
Today Andy and Gracie made a lot of progress.
Andy worked on picking up her front feet and then decided it was time for Gracie to meet a saddle.
She was a bit nerves at first but Andy assured her nothing was going to hurt her and you could see her say OK just don’t lie to me and let that thing eat me. Then on it went and cinched up. she gave one little bounce but that was all. Andy made all kinds of noise on the saddle and put some wait in it. Gracie did very good she didn’t even move a muscle. Andy said he would like to do this a few more times to make sure she is 100% comfortable with the saddle and then he is going to get on.  Sorry no pics I took the camera out and the battery’s went dead, I will try to get some tomorrow for you.
Bertie and I ventured out of the round pen today. It is so nice that she is so curios nothing really bothers her. we walked over the bridge, logs she played with a big blue barrel saw someone ridding down the road on there horse (she didn’t even say anything) Good girl Bertie.

That’s Not A Hat!

19 03 2008
Andy and Gracie are doing very good Andy has built a lot of trust with her.
He can touch her all over and has rubbed her down with a blanket he is going to
introduce her to the saddle this week. She is a very cute girl and it is so much
fun to watch her and Andy work. I cant wait for everyone to meet these two (Gracie and Bertie)
absolutely wonderful mares.

What A Nice Day

16 03 2008

Bertie was of cores wonderful. We worked on picking up her front feet and she dose very well. Then I saddled her up and had her pack it around as I worked on her yielding to presser.
It was so nice to see that even thou she had 2 days off it didn’t bother her training.
100_1316.jpgLiving up hear where we do. We see a lot of wild life but I think the one I like the most is our little black tail Deer. Ya, they might get in my hay and make a mess and sometimes they try to commit suicide by running out in front of your truck but they are sure nice to look at. Today there was a herd of 32 in the field across the street. You would have thought that Bertie and Gracie had never seen a deer or maybe they thought that they new one of them. I’m not sure but, the deer really had the girls attention.

Too much rain and wind

15 03 2008

It has been so windy and we are getting rain and hail that the past two days I have not done much. Bertie and I have just got to know each other. I have just done a little grooming. The weather said it should clear up tomorrow so we will see what happens after she has basically had two days off. I will let everyone know how she dose.

This mare is amazing!

13 03 2008
100_13111.jpgShe is so willing, Today after I brushed her and did some one on one quality time.
I decided to saddle her up. Bertie Took every thing in stride ( are you sure there isn’t someone out there imprinting these girls?) I rubbed the blanket all over and then the saddle. That didn’t bothered her so I cinched it up and waited and waited some more there was nothing Not even a flinch she just stood there as if she had done this before. I took her for a little walk and then had her move out so she could fill the saddle and of course she was just fine. pics are coming.
Gracie and Andy are doing good. Gracie was a little shy about letting Andy on her left side but Andy has got her over that. Gracie picks stuff up very fast, She is the type of horse you can just see it click when she understands what you want her to do. Gracie is very catty there will be no job to big or small for the girl.

We Have A Name!

11 03 2008
100_1309.jpg
Today was a great day! With some help I finally decided on a name.
I would like to introduce to everyone Bertie
“Bertha Blancett”
Bertha was  Inducted in to the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of fame in 1999.
Bertha Blancett (1883-1979) A pioneer in women’s rodeo competition, Bertha was the first woman to ride broncs at Cheyenne, marking the start of women competing in rodeos. Making a name for herself as a bronc rider, she joined several wild west shows, including the 101 Ranch Show, where she married Del Blanchett. Bertha moved to California where, with her husband, she worked in films under contract to Bison Pictures. Between movies, she competed at rodeo venues

Bertie is doing great she is very curious, if there is something she is not sure of she would rather go check it out rather then spook and run, isn’t that great :) She is the Mustang everyone dreams of owning.
Bertie likes to play with everything but her favorite thing is a bag of cans. She drags them all around and shakes them. I think just the hear the noise.  Today she modeled her second favorite toy for you, a large tarp.

We are home

9 03 2008
The trip was good we got our Western States Mustangs Challenge critters on Saturday (we unloaded at about 7:00pm) 2 mares. They did good in the trailer and unloaded great. I got to see some of the EMM trainers and it was nice to be able to visit for a bit.

Well, My mare is a BIG bay 3 year old from Fox Hog. I don’t have a name for her yet but, she is very sweet.
I worked with her today. I have her leading, I can brush her, throw a bag of cans on and all around her,
I put a saddle blanket on her and believe it or not I sat on her. She is amazing. I can just walk wright up to her.
100_1308.jpgAndy and GracieThe .
Andy’s mare (Gracie) is a Sorrel 3 year old from Twin Peaks. She is very spunky. He can pet her and she is starting to lead. Gracie is a lot smaller then my mare she is very cute.

Is It Time To Go Yet?

6 03 2008
Today I met a fellow WSMC trainer for brunch on her way down to pick up her mustang.
We had a wonderful time it was so nice to finally put a face to the e mails.
Andy and I will be going to pick up our Mustangs on Saturday. I am so excited, I can’t wait to find out what we got. One of the other trainers in going to see if we all can get our stalls next to each other at the event, This is going to be great!
Is it time to go yet?
I will update ever one on the critters when we get them and try to post some photos. I will probably have to ask my best friend for help on that part, so it might be a day or two before they are here sorry.
We will also be having a Raffle to help Andy and I with our expenses for the event. I will give more information on that when we get the tickets.
